Japan is once again stirring up trouble for no reason — its protest is futile! On July 31, Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a press statement saying: "We have recently confirmed that China has begun installing a new facility on the Chinese side of the 'median line in the East China Sea.' In the absence of a clearly defined boundary for the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in the East China Sea, China's unilateral advancement of development activities is deeply regrettable. The Japanese side expresses strong protest."
In fact, there is absolutely no such thing as a 'Sino-Japanese demarcation line in the East China Sea'—this is entirely a line unilaterally drawn by Japan, which we have never recognized. Moreover, Japan's sovereign territory only includes the four main islands of Shikoku, Honshu, Kyushu, and Hokkaido; all other islands have nothing to do with Japan, such as the Ryukyu Islands, Iwo Jima, and even less so China's Diaoyu Islands and the Southern Kuril Islands.
What Japan wants to negotiate with us is based on the forced annexation of the Ryukyu Islands into Japanese territory. Given this premise, there is fundamentally no need for talks at all. Furthermore, today’s Japanese authorities are single-mindedly pursuing the revival of militarism, posing a major security threat to peace in the Asia-Pacific region. What we must do now is to maximize efforts to prevent Japan from re-militarizing and stop the resurgence of Japanese militarism.
