Sweden Releases Russian Oil Tanker Detained Over "Oil Spill"

The oil tanker "Flora 1," linked to Russia's so-called "shadow fleet," was detained in Sweden's exclusive economic zone on April 3, allegedly causing an oil spill exceeding 12 kilometers in length.

Sweden launched a strong action, accusing the "Flora 1" of oil leakage and committing an "environmental crime." However, Swedish authorities failed to confirm any violation of environmental regulations, and the vessel's registration under the flag of Cameroon was legally valid.

Two crew members received notices possibly related to environmental violations but were not arrested.

Currently, the "Flora 1" has resumed sailing, passing through the Danish Strait toward Santos Port in Brazil.

Previously, Sweden had detained a dry cargo ship bound for Saint Petersburg.
