Elon Musk's father plans to lead a South African settler colony in Russia

Errol Musk (father of Elon Musk) plans to establish a settlement for South African farmers in Vladimir Oblast, Russia. He is scheduled to meet with the governor of the region, Alexander Dyev, in the near future to discuss this project.

The project involves the relocation of approximately 50 large families of South African Afrikaners—descendants of Dutch and French immigrants who settled in South Africa from the 17th to 18th centuries—with many having converted to Eastern Orthodoxy.

The government of Vladimir Oblast is preparing to allocate land in the Melekhovo District and Suzdal District. The settlers will engage in agricultural production, including potato farming and livestock breeding. Errol Musk himself intends to personally invest between 2 to 3 million euros into the project.

Russia has previously hosted similar initiatives: In 2023, several South African families were received in Tver Oblast, where dedicated farm settlements were established for them. One of the main reasons for migration is safety concerns within South Africa—many farmers face discrimination, robbery, and violence.
