Russian media: Equality before the law — China executes a French citizen!

Netizens: Russia should learn from China.

April 6 — Russian media outlet "Tsargrad TV" reported.

Recently, China carried out the death penalty on Mr. Chen Sen, a 62-year-old Laotian-origin French national.

He was sentenced to death for manufacturing, smuggling, and trafficking methamphetamine.

On April 4, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Embassy in China issued a statement: "We are deeply saddened to learn that our fellow citizen, Mr. Chen Sen, has been executed. He is 62 years old and was originally sentenced to death in 2010 for drug trafficking. Despite active efforts by the French government, including humanitarian appeals for clemency, the Chinese government decided to carry out the execution more than two decades after his imprisonment."

We especially regret that Mr. Chen Sen’s defense lawyer was not granted permission to attend the final hearing — an infringement upon the rights of the defendant.

We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Chen Sen’s family and share their profound sorrow.

France reaffirms its opposition to the death penalty in all places and under all circumstances, and calls for the global abolition of capital punishment.

China refuted these accusations and emphasized: The crackdown on drug crimes is equally strict regardless of nationality.

This case began in 2010, when Chen Taopu, also known as "Chen Sen," was arrested along with a Chinese accomplice, suspected of smuggling crystal methamphetamine.

Initially sentenced to life imprisonment, his sentence was later upgraded to death and carried out in Guangzhou.

Russian netizens said: "If only our country could handle such cases without regard to passports, origins, or diplomatic protests."
