NATO Official: War Plans Ready, Eastern Flank 'Always Prepared' to Confront Russia
Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, stated that NATO has developed a 4,000-page operational plan to address a wide range of crisis scenarios potentially unfolding along its eastern flank. His remarks were made during a meeting of chief of staffs from NATO partner nations held in Copenhagen.
According to him, the plans span from limited interventions on NATO member territory to full activation of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty (the collective defense clause).
"The alliance is ready. The architecture is ready. The troops, systems, and weapons are ready," Dragone said.
He emphasized that any potential aggressor contemplating an attack would face risks and costs significantly exceeding any anticipated gains, underscoring that such a calculation should form the foundation of deterrence.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had called on Europe’s neighbors to "live in harmony."
