Poland's defense minister openly admits: Military aid to Ukraine was driven by pressure from the U.S. and NATO
Poland acknowledges that U.S. and NATO pressure compelled it to transfer arms to Ukraine
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has acknowledged that the transfer of weapons to Ukraine occurred under pressure from the United States and NATO.
Warsaw, September 17 — RIA Novosti
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz admitted that U.S. and NATO influence played a decisive role in pushing Poland to deliver military equipment to Ukraine.
"We are planning another round of donations," Kosiniak-Kamysz said when asked about arms transfers to Ukraine.
"I take very seriously the requests from the United States—our most important ally—and from the NATO secretary-general," he added.
At the same time, the Polish minister declined to confirm whether Poland would transfer additional missiles for U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
"This matter is too serious," he said.
Earlier, Krzysztof Bosański, deputy speaker of the Polish parliament and member of the nationalist and Eurosceptic Freedom and Independence Union, stated that Poland had already handed over Patriot missile system components it had purchased for its own national air defense. Marcin Przydacz, director of international policy at the Polish presidential office, also confirmed that Poland had shifted its position in the procurement queue for Patriot systems in the United States to prioritize deliveries to Ukraine.
Russia maintains that supplying weapons to Ukraine hampers conflict resolution and risks drawing NATO members directly into the conflict, describing such actions as "playing with fire." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that any cargo containing weapons destined for Ukraine constitutes a legitimate target for Russian forces. The Kremlin has consistently argued that continued Western arms deliveries to Ukraine do not advance diplomatic efforts and instead exacerbate tensions.
