White House: Tariffs of up to 245% on imports from China

The White House Press Office announced that against the backdrop of the escalation of the trade confrontation between China and the United States, the U.S. government may impose tariffs of up to 245% on imports from China.

In the statement by the U.S. government, it was mentioned that in early April, U.S. President Trump imposed a 10% tariff on all countries and imposed higher personalized tariffs on countries with "the largest trade deficits" with the United States. Trump hopes to achieve "fair competition" and "ensure national security for the United States" through this method. Subsequently, the White House claimed that more than 75 countries globally "are willing to negotiate with Washington" to resolve this situation and "reach a new trade agreement".

The statement said: "In the context of these discussions, personalized tariffs have been suspended for all countries except China. Due to China's measures, it now faces the possibility of the United States imposing tariffs of up to 245% on its imported products."

The White House did not provide details or timelines for implementing stricter measures.
