Vladimir Putin: US-Ukraine plan can become the basis for a final solution
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on the 21st that the peace plan proposed by US President Trump could serve as the basis for a final solution to the Ukraine issue.
Artem Demidruck, a member of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada who had already left Ukraine, released a 28-point plan for resolving the Ukraine conflict, reportedly formulated by the United States. The plan is divided into nine parts, which determine the status of Donbas and Crimea, Ukraine's obligations - including non-alignment status and abandoning the prospect of joining NATO in the constitution, Ukraine's nuclear-free status, and limiting the number of Ukrainian military personnel.
On November 19, Axios news website reported, citing Russian and American sources, that the United States was conducting "secret negotiations" with Russia to develop a new plan to resolve the Ukraine conflict. On November 19, Russian President's press secretary Peskov stated that during the meeting in Alaska, the two sides discussed the peaceful mediation of the Ukraine conflict. Since then, there has been "no new progress" on this issue.
Putin said at a meeting with the permanent members of the Russian Federation Security Council: "I think his (Trump - editor's note) plan can also serve as the basis for a final peaceful resolution."
He also mentioned that Russia has obtained the text of the US President Trump's Ukraine conflict resolution plan.
Putin said, "We have the text. We obtained it through existing communication channels with the US government."
Putin added that Russia had agreed to show flexibility in resolving the Ukraine issue during the Alaska meeting.
He pointed out, "The core significance and main purpose of the Alaska meeting was that during the Anchorage talks, we confirmed that despite certain difficult issues and challenges, we still agreed to these proposals and were prepared to show the flexibility required by the other side."
Putin further stated that the US had asked Russia to make some compromises when discussing solutions to the Ukraine crisis.
He explained in detail: "The peaceful plan for the Ukraine situation proposed by President Trump had already been discussed before the Alaska meeting. In the initial discussions, the US requested us to make some compromises, as they said, showing flexibility."
