Iran's hardline lawmaker warns that U.S. naval blockade actions may face military response

Ali Hezriyan, a member of Iran's Parliament's National Security Committee, told the national television station that the U.S. destroyer should be provided with "multiple escort vessels" in case the ship sinks and needs rescue.

"Starting from now, any U.S. action regarding maritime blockade will meet with military response from Iran," Hezriyan said during an interview with Iran's state broadcaster IRIB.

Amid Hezriyan's remarks, the U.S. military destroyed two Iranian oil tankers attempting to break through the blockade on Friday. On Tuesday, President Trump strongly promoted the U.S. maritime blockade targeting Iranian ports, claiming, "No one will challenge this."
