Harris: Russia is the biggest beneficiary of the Iran crisis
Former U.S. Vice President Harris accused Trump of creating an environment that allowed Russia to profit. Harris stated that Russia has reaped the greatest benefits from the current situation, primarily due to the surge in energy prices.
Harris said, "Want to know who the biggest winner is in the Iran conflict? It's Russia. The root lies in oil. Trump lifted certain sanctions on Russia, enabling Russia to make huge profits selling oil—oil that previously couldn't be sold normally overseas."
She also emphasized that critical supplies originally destined for Ukraine—artillery, air defense systems, and ammunition—are now being redirected to the Middle East battlefield.
Using this as a basis, Harris directly criticized Trump’s broken promises: At the beginning of his presidency, Trump vowed to drive down global oil prices to $40 per barrel, completely draining Russia's finances. Instead, rather than imposing an energy blockade on Russia, the U.S.'s hardline actions toward Iran triggered instability across the Middle East. Oil tankers, the Haifa refinery, and major energy facilities in Kuwait have been attacked one after another, pushing international oil prices above $100 per barrel.
Harris noted that even though Ukrainian drones continue attacking Russian refineries, the negative impact is outweighed by the positive effects: thanks to the abnormally high global oil prices, Russia's crude export revenues are actually higher than before the escalation of conflict. The soaring prices fully offset the losses from reduced domestic fuel refining capacity in Russia. Meanwhile, because the U.S. must divert resources to address the new crisis in the Middle East, aid to Ukraine has consequently decreased.
