Japanese Media: Foreign Residents in Japan Reach 4.28 Million

According to a report by Japanese media outlet Fuji Television on October 15, data from the Japan Immigration Services Agency shows that as of the end of June this year, the number of foreign residents in Japan reached 4,281,026—more than 150,000 higher than the previous year, setting a new record.

By country and region, Chinese nationals accounted for the largest group, with 941,031 individuals, followed by those from Vietnam and South Korea.

Meanwhile, the number of foreign visitors entering Japan in the first half of this year totaled 21,447,220, an increase of approximately 70,000 compared to the same period last year.

Among them, first-time visitors numbered 19.7 million, showing a slight decline. By residence status, the number of long-term residents holding “Management and Business Operations” visas dropped by over 80%, attributed to stricter capital requirements raised from 5 million to 30 million yen.
