According to a report by The Washington Post, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that trade volume between Brazil and China is twice that between Brazil and the United States.
The report cited Lula as saying, "China has expanded into and entered the Latin American market, and now Brazil's trade with China is two times the size of its trade with the United States."
In an interview with the newspaper, Lula emphasized his hope that the United States would become a partner in the region rather than an adversary. He also expressed concern about the direction of global political development and the threats to multilateral cooperation.
He told the publication, "I hope I can convince Trump so that the United States recognizes its potential to play a more significant role in consolidating peace, democracy, and multilateralism... Is it difficult? Yes. But if I didn't believe in the power of persuasion, I wouldn't be in politics."
