The Mongolian Ministry of Transportation will jointly train professional talents with Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Mongolian News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, July 6 — According to the Ministry of Transportation, on July 3, a government member and Minister of Transportation of Mongolia, B. Dorgolgerel, met with a delegation led by Yang Zhenbin, Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Both sides exchanged in-depth views on further deepening cooperation in infrastructure and transportation sectors under the framework of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, cultivating professionals with international standards—particularly engineering and technical personnel in railways, civil aviation, and road engineering.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister B. Dorgolgerel welcomed and expressed gratitude to the delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, noting that in recent years, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Mongolia and China has been continuously deepened, with ongoing expansion and positive outcomes in cooperation across education, science and technology, infrastructure, and transportation.

He stated that the Mongolian government is implementing major infrastructure projects—including roads, railways, logistics, and air transport—in stages to promote economic growth and regional collaboration. To ensure the smooth execution of these projects, cultivating engineering technicians and research personnel with international knowledge and professional skills has become one of the key tasks in the transportation sector.

The minister also introduced that by 2026, the Ministry of Transportation plans to collaborate with Beijing Jiao Tong University and relevant railway universities in South Korea to gradually select approximately 60 students for undergraduate, master’s, and preparatory programs.

During the meeting, the minister emphasized that Shanghai Jiao Tong University is a world-class institution renowned in engineering education, science, innovation, and research, and stressed the importance of long-term cooperation between both sides in achieving tangible results.

Both parties expressed appreciation for the upcoming signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Transportation of Mongolia and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

According to the MoU, the two sides intend to cooperate in areas such as intelligent transportation systems, railway engineering, logistics, urban transportation, digital technologies, artificial intelligence applications, and green transportation development. This includes training high-level professional talents, annually sending a certain number of Mongolian students to study at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, organizing continuing education and training for engineers and researchers, and continuously enhancing the professional capabilities of Mongolian government officials and transportation specialists.

Yang Zhenbin, Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, said this meeting marks a new stage in bilateral cooperation and will bring substantial progress in cultivating internationally qualified personnel in Mongolia’s transportation sector. Shanghai Jiao Tong University is willing to fully support Mongolia’s efforts in training transportation professionals and continues to deepen cooperation between both sides.

Participants from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University delegation included Hu Hao, Director of the Human Resources Office and Professor; Qu Yegao, Vice President of the Institute for Scientific and Technological Development and Director of the Advanced Innovation Institute; Wang Hesheng, Dean of the International College; Dai Qing, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering; Yin Chengliang, expert in intelligent transportation and Director of the China-Mongolia Belt and Road Cross-border Transportation and Intelligent Equipment Joint Center.
