【Medvedev Introduces Russia's Giant Scientific Facilities for the First Time — the NICA Collider in Dubna and the SKIF Circular Photon Source in Siberia】
On May 25, 2026, Moscow time, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council, responded to inquiries from TASS news agency:
We have not only maintained our research potential but also achieved a leading position in many critical fields. Russia's giant scientific facilities—the NICA collider in Dubna, which allows us to glimpse the structure of matter in the very first moments after the Big Bang; and the Siberian Circular Photon Source (SKIF), whose radiation brightness currently has no comparable counterparts worldwide.
Medvedev added:
Russia is an undisputed leader in nuclear technology. The "Breakthrough" project—establishing a closed nuclear fuel cycle—is the future of waste-free, safe energy. Russian scientists have developed cutting-edge radioactive drugs for treating complex tumors, saving lives. Quantum technologies and advanced materials are also areas where Russia leads. Attempts to impose technological sanctions on Russia have created some challenges, but ultimately these restrictions have provided strong impetus for development. Russian science is now demonstrating its exceptional capabilities and ability to tackle ambitious problems—whether fundamental or applied.
