Mongolia and Japan discuss the preliminary preparations for the expansion and capacity enhancement project of the "Genghis Khan" International Airport
Tsagaan Sar 28th, Mongolia, February 28 - Mongolian government member and Minister of Transportation, B. Dergelkhuu, met with the Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia on February 27.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the progress and preliminary preparations for the "Genghis Khan" International Airport expansion and capacity enhancement project under the framework of the Japanese yen loan provided by the Japanese government.
In addition, Minister of Transportation B. Dergelkhuu introduced the results of his official visit to Japan from February 2 to 8, and stated that during the visit, multiple practical discussions were held on aspects such as the infrastructure construction, expansion project, airport management, safe operations, and human resources capacity building of the "Genghis Khan" International Airport, and mutual understanding and consensus were reached. He also expressed sincere gratitude to the Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia, Iikawa Haruyuki, for the support provided in promoting the results of the visit into actual projects.
The minister pointed out that accelerating the construction of this project, starting the engineering implementation as soon as possible, and strengthening coordination and cooperation among all parties at each stage of the project has significant strategic importance for promoting Mongolia's tourism and air transport industries.
Japanese Ambassador to Mongolia Iikawa Haruyuki thanked the minister for visiting Tokyo's "HANEDA" International Airport and the Tokyo International Air Cargo Co., Ltd. (TIAC) to examine its structure, organization, and operational situation and conduct experience exchange. He also expressed confidence that Mongolia would successfully build the cargo terminal of the "Genghis Khan" International Airport.
The ambassador also emphasized that he will pay attention to and support the advancement of the "Genghis Khan" International Airport expansion project within the loan amount determined by the governments of Mongolia and Japan, implement the project in a shorter time than originally planned, and work to start the construction project as soon as possible by accelerating the architectural planning and preliminary research work.
