Media in the UK: The US May Provide Fuel Aid to Cuba
Sputnik News, Moscow, February 13 - According to a report by the British magazine The Economist, citing sources with knowledge of the matter, the United States is considering providing humanitarian fuel aid to Cuba while maintaining its oil embargo against the country.
The article states that the U.S. plans to provide small amounts of diesel fuel needed to maintain water supply infrastructure and cooking gas.
On January 29, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency, threatening to impose ad valorem tariffs on goods from countries exporting oil to Cuba, in an effort to further pressure the Cuban regime.
Viktor Korolenko, Russia's ambassador to Cuba, previously told Sputnik News that the interruption of Venezuelan oil supplies has exacerbated Cuba's long-standing fuel shortages.
