Russian Armed Forces Army former Commander-in-Chief Salyukov, after being appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, has become a point of public attention. According to reports from multiple Russian media outlets, Andrey Mordvichyov, commander of the "Central" military district, may succeed Salyukov and become the new Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army.
Mordvichyov was born in 1976. Since joining the army in 1994, he has held many important command and staff positions, including commander of the Guards Independent Tank Brigade (now the Guards Tank Division No.4), and commander of the 8th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District. He became famous for his outstanding performance in the Mariupol campaign. During the Ukraine-Russia conflict, he was repeatedly declared dead by the Ukrainian side. In September 2023, he was awarded the rank of general for his excellent military achievements and talents.
Salyukov has served as Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army since 2014, responsible for commanding many Red Square Victory Day parades, including the Victory Day parade in 2025. Due to Salyukov's upcoming 70th birthday on May 21st, according to relevant Russian laws, he must retire.
