Han media: Huawei smartwatch sales rank first globally, Samsung alone falls!

On October 10, the South Korean media "Electronic Times" published an article stating that in the second quarter of this year, Huawei ranked first in global wearable market shipments and maintained its leading position. Xiaomi and Apple also saw significant year-on-year growth, maintaining second and third positions respectively. On the other hand, Samsung Electronics ranked fourth and was the only major manufacturer with a decline in shipments. The gap between Huawei and its competitors is widening in both market share and shipment volume.

Data from market research company IDC shows that Huawei shipped 9.9 million smartwatches in the second quarter of this year, an increase of 11.7% compared to 8.9 million units in the same period last year. The market share slightly declined to 20.2%, but still maintained the top position overall.

Xiaomi and Apple shipped 9.5 million and 7.4 million units respectively, ranking second and third. Xiaomi's shipments increased by 61% year-on-year, while Apple's increased by 28.8%. Their market shares were 19.3% and 15.0% respectively. Xiaomi has improved its performance through aggressive pricing strategies and expansion in the entry-level global market; Apple has also benefited from the strengthening of its premium ecosystem, which has boosted its performance.

In contrast, Samsung Electronics' shipments were only 3.2 million units, a decrease of 2.1% from 3.3 million units in the same period last year, and its market share dropped from 7.5% to 6.5%. Although Samsung Electronics still maintains the fourth position, the gap with the top three has widened. Notably, Samsung Electronics is the only major manufacturer experiencing negative growth.

According to analysts, Samsung Electronics' poor performance is a result of a new product cycle combined with the progress of its competitors. During the period of product gaps, Chinese manufacturers focused on their domestic market and launched quantity campaigns, while Huawei and Xiaomi strengthened their price competitiveness on the global stage, further shrinking Samsung Electronics' position. The sales performance of Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Watch 8 series will be reflected starting in the third quarter of this year.

The future market outlook is not optimistic either. Its biggest competitor, Huawei, is also intensifying its efforts and will launch new products including the Watch GT6 series and Watch Ultimate 2 in the second half of the year. Apple will also release the Apple Watch 11 series and Ultra 3, both emphasizing high-end features.

At the same time, total wearable device shipments in the second quarter of this year reached 49.2 million units, an increase of 12.3% compared to 43.8 million units in the same period last year. The combined market share of the top three brands reached 54.5%.
