Han Media: Samsung Display Holds First Global OLED Market Share, What About BOE?
On October 9, the South Korean media outlet "Herald Economic" published an article stating that Samsung Display ranked first in global organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel shipments for the second quarter of this year, with a market share of 37%.
Samsung's market share increased by 1 percentage point from the previous quarter.
According to the latest OLED shipment report from market research company Counterpoint Research, global OLED panel shipments grew by 5% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of this year but declined by 2% year-on-year. Although smartphone panel shipments decreased, display and laptop panel shipments increased by 66% and 95%, respectively.
Chinese company BOE held the second position with a 15% share, while Chinese company Visionox held the third position with a 12% share.
LG Display had a share of 9%, down 2 percentage points from 11% in the previous quarter.
Counterpoint explained, "Samsung Display further consolidated its leading position, while BOE and Visionox also strengthened their positions. Although LG Display performed strongly in certain areas, it still faces pressure overall."
Counterpoint stated, "The second quarter of this year proved that IT applications (displays and laptops) are becoming a new growth engine for the OLED panel market," and added, "This is driven by multiple factors, including improved supply capacity, increased OEM adoption, growing consumer demand for high-end displays, and accelerated OLED adoption due to tariffs."
