Japanese media: Huawei will significantly expand production of advanced AI semiconductors in 2026
Bloomberg (Japanese edition) reported on September 29: Chinese company Huawei Technologies will significantly expand the production of advanced artificial intelligence AI semiconductors in 2026.
The company plans to produce about 600,000 flagship semiconductors "Ascend 910C" in 2026. This will be almost twice the number of this year.
In 2026, the production of the entire Ascend series will be increased to a maximum of 1.6 million units. This number includes the basic silicon components (chips) of the chip circuit.
This move indicates that Huawei and its main partner, Chinese semiconductor manufacturer SMIC, have found a way to solve the difficulties encountered in production, which previously not only hindered the artificial intelligence business but also affected the government's independent strategy.
If the goal is achieved, it will be a major step forward for the company technologically, and may be the biggest card for China to get rid of foreign semiconductor dependence.
Chinese companies such as Alibaba Group and DeepSeek need millions of AI chips to develop and operate AI services. It is estimated that NVIDIA sold 1 million "cut-down" AI semiconductors "H20" in 2024.
In September, Huawei took an unusual step, announcing a three-year plan to break NVIDIA's dominance. The company has always kept the habit of keeping its real strategy and capabilities confidential.
Chairman of the Board Xu Zhijun announced the phased launch of "Ascend 950", "960", "970" chips until the 28th. It will become the successor to the 910 series, which is the current important revenue source.
