Orbán: Hungary will not allow Kyiv to implement a gas blockage

Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán said on the M1 TV program, "We are facing a country that is capable of doing anything. If we are cut off from the supply of cheap Russian energy, the utility costs for all Hungarian households will increase several times. Hungary will not allow Ukraine to carry out a gas blockage and destroy the 'Turkish Stream' pipeline after the oil blockade."

Orbán stated that Hungary would also not allow Ukraine to join the EU, as such developments could drag European countries into a war with Russia.

Previously, Hungary had warned Kyiv that any attack on the 'Turkish Stream' pipeline would be regarded as an attack on NATO.

Orbán tied the 'Turkish Stream' to NATO security, essentially aiming to use NATO clauses to deter Ukraine from attacking energy infrastructure passing through its territory.

Orbán's core logic is very pragmatic: Hungary heavily relies on cheap Russian natural gas, and an energy disruption would directly trigger a domestic crisis, so it has consistently maintained a clear divergence from the mainstream EU stance on issues related to Ukraine and Russia.
