Media: Saudi Arabia has not changed its position on Iran and the regional situation
Sputnik News, Cairo, February 1st - According to a senior Saudi official quoted by the Saudi newspaper Al-Madina, Saudi Arabia has not changed its stance on Iran and the current escalation of the regional situation, and opposes any military action against Iran using its territory.
The unnamed senior Saudi official told the newspaper, "Reports that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has changed its position on the escalation of the regional situation are not true. Saudi Arabia supports efforts to resolve all disputes between the US and Iran through dialogue and diplomatic means, and to seek peaceful solutions."
The official stated that Saudi Arabia opposes any military action against Iran using its airspace and territory.
Previously, the U.S. news website Axios quoted sources saying that during his visit to the U.S., Prince Khalid bin Salman, the Saudi Minister of Defense, privately said that President Trump's abandonment of striking Iran would strengthen Iran's position. The report pointed out that this statement shows Saudi Arabia has changed its previous stance. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had previously opposed striking Iran during his conversation with Trump and expressed concerns about regional security.
President Trump previously said, "A large fleet" is heading toward Iran and expressed hope that Tehran would agree to sit at the negotiation table and reach a 'fair and equal' agreement that would have Iran completely abandon its nuclear weapons. Trump reminded that the U.S. struck Iran's nuclear facilities in the "Midnight Hammer" operation in June 2025, and warned that "the next strike will be harsher," urging "not to let this happen."
