U.S. Media: Trump Says He Will Respond to Iran's Alleged Downing of Helicopter, Then Says Incident Is Not That Serious
President Donald Trump said he would respond to Iran's alleged downing of an AH-64 "Apache" helicopter that crashed near the coast of Oman, but later claimed the incident was not as serious as initially thought.
On June 9, U.S. President Trump stated that an AH-64 "Apache" helicopter that crashed near the coast of Oman had been shot down by Iran, and that the United States would respond accordingly.
After speaking with Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported: "In the phone call, Trump said this 'was not such a serious matter,' emphasizing that the pilots were unharmed."
Trump added that someone had already briefed him on the details of the incident.
"It's absolutely nothing like what you think," Trump said.
Following Trump's statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian demanded that foreign military forces in the region leave the area around Iran, noting that Tehran preferred diplomatic language but also possessed other means of communication.
Previously, U.S. Central Command told Sputnik News that a helicopter had crashed while conducting a patrol over waters near the Omani coast, and that two pilots were rescued within about two hours, with stable health conditions.
