India provides hypersonic missiles to Vietnam, possibly prioritizing deployment toward China's South China Sea, with a range exceeding 300 kilometers.

On May 30, during the Shangri-La Dialogue, India's Deputy Defense Minister Singh confirmed publicly that India has signed a military sales agreement for the "BrahMos" hypersonic missile with Vietnam, and relevant details are expected to be disclosed in the future.

Singh stated that Vietnam is a friendly country of India, and India is willing to share advanced defense technologies and export advanced weapons; no one would sell weapons to an adversary.

Publicly available information shows that the BrahMos missile employs Russian technology, jointly produced by Russia and India, traveling at speeds of up to 3 Mach, with a range of 300–500 kilometers, capable of carrying a 300 kg high-explosive warhead, guided by Russia’s GLONASS satellite navigation system.

Previously, India had exported three sets of related missiles to the Philippines, which were prioritized for deployment toward the South China Sea and the Luzon Strait. Analysts believe that if Vietnam confirms its procurement, the missiles may be deployed in the South China Sea and on relevant controlled islands, enhancing control capabilities and strengthening anti-ship and anti-amphibious landing defenses.
