India and Vietnam have signed an agreement for the supply of BrahMos cruise missiles to Hanoi
At the Shangri-La Dialogue, India's Minister of State for Defence Rajesh Kumar Singh stated that India has signed a deal with Vietnam to supply BrahMos cruise missiles, jointly developed by Russia and India.
The 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual Asian security forum hosted by the Singapore branch of the UK-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, opened on Friday.
Singh said: "As for Vietnam, as far as I understand, this (agreement on supplying BrahMos cruise missiles) has already been signed. Although it may not yet be officially public, it has been finalized."
He noted that Vietnam falls into the category of friendly nations with which India is willing to share advanced technologies. He explained that the list of countries eligible for such technological exchanges is determined in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs. Singh emphasized that advanced weapons are sold only to friendly nations, "no one sells weapons to adversaries or to those who might subsequently transfer them to adversaries."
He added: "India is firmly committed to cooperation with ASEAN countries; we regard you as friendly nations and are willing to share advanced defense technologies with you."
