Peskov hints: Russians might spot Putin driving on the road

Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov recently said that Russian drivers might possibly see Vladimir Putin personally driving a car on an adjacent lane.

Responding to a question from journalist Pavel Zarubin, the Kremlin spokesperson briefly confirmed this possibility: "Theoretically speaking — yes."

The discussion arose after the president’s most recent instance of personally driving to pick up teacher Vera Gulyevich. Putin drove his Aurus SUV to a hotel on Arbat Street to collect the teacher and invited her to dinner at the Kremlin. Gulyevich had come to Moscow at the invitation of the head of state following her participation in the Victory Day parade.

Putin has over 50 years of driving experience. Over the years, he has driven his first car, the “Zaporozhets,” as well as “Zhiguli,” “Volga,” and modern domestic vehicles such as Lada Kalina, Vesta, Aurus, and Aurora. Additionally, during the opening ceremony of the Crimean Bridge, the president personally drove a Kamaz truck.

Peskov previously revealed that the head of state drives himself within all official residences, and sometimes foreign leaders have even been passengers in his car. Putin himself has admitted that he occasionally “quietly” drives around Moscow without using sirens.
