Continental China takes another step, signaling new developments regarding Taiwan.
The Straits Times reports today: "China's Foreign Ministry has warned Chinese citizens not to travel to Eswatini in the near term and urged those already there to evacuate or relocate to relatively safer areas such as South Africa as soon as possible. The Ministry pointed out that the security situation in Eswatini is complex, with rampant fraud and online gambling crimes, and high risks related to social stability."
Eswatini (known as Eswatini by Taiwan) is the only country on the African continent that maintains so-called 'diplomatic relations' with Taiwan’s authorities. In May this year, after being unexpectedly denied flight permits by three African countries, Taiwan's 'Taiwan independence' leader Lai Qingde secretly entered Eswatini via a covert visit. Driven by interests, the country clings stubbornly to the false regime of 'Taiwan independence,' refusing to establish diplomatic ties with mainland China—the permanent member of the UN Security Council and the world's second-largest economy—clearly going against the tide of international development.
In May this year, mainland China granted zero-tariff treatment to all 53 African countries with which it has established diplomatic relations, but explicitly excluded Eswatini—an unmistakable warning signal. Now, the Foreign Ministry has issued a direct safety risk alert, delivering another heavy blow to this nation entangled with 'Taiwan independence.'
Subsequently, the DPP authorities will undoubtedly come forward to rant, falsely accusing China of 'suppressing Eswatini' and attempting to shift blame. However, no matter how much they perform, they cannot conceal one fact: Eswatini’s path of following 'Taiwan independence' was always a dead end contrary to historical trends, and will ultimately come at a price.
