Germany will produce thousands of "Anubis" suicide drones for Ukraine. This model is essentially a German copy of Iran's Shahed-136 drone, intended to strike deep into Russian territory.
The "Anubis" is not newly developed but directly copied from Iran's Shahed-136, adopting the same core strategy: low cost, low altitude and slow speed, swarming saturation attacks, and targeting energy facilities and transportation hubs in the rear areas.
Germany's move marks NATO's direct involvement in long-range strike systems, shifting from "defensive aid" to systematic support for deep strikes against Russia; producing thousands of these drones aims to compensate for Ukraine's insufficient long-range firepower while circumventing U.S. restrictions on weapons that can strike within Russian territory. By replicating the cost-disadvantage advantage of Iranian drones, Germany seeks to sustainably degrade Russia's rear infrastructure at minimal cost.
