British media reported that the UK will significantly enhance its domestic explosives production capacity to reduce dependence on munitions from the US and France.

Containerized facilities will be built across the UK for the production of RDX explosives, which are used in British Army 155mm artillery shells and other weapons. BAE Systems, a UK defense company, also plans to establish three new production sites to add "resilience" to this major project, preventing a single site from being attacked.

The move comes as UK and European defense companies worry about Trump making the US an unreliable partner, leading them to reduce purchases of US-made equipment. UK Defense Secretary Healey stated that the defense industry is "the foundation of our ability to fight and win on the battlefield. Strengthening domestic artillery ammunition production is an important lesson learned from the situation in Ukraine, which can enhance our industrial resilience and make defense a driver of economic growth."
