South Korean media: Apple expands iPhone production in India, Tata and Foxconn factories begin operations!
On May 1st, South Korean media "Digital Times" published an article stating that as the Trump administration pressured Apple to produce iPhones in the U.S., Apple seems to be attempting to reduce its reliance on Chinese iPhone production and strengthen production in India.
It is reported that Tata Electronics and Foxconn will open new iPhone assembly plants in India. Tata will assemble previous-generation iPhone models at its factory in Hosur, while Foxconn plans to produce iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e models at its new factory.
The Foxconn plant in India can assemble 300 to 500 iPhones per hour, and it is expected to employ 50,000 workers by 2027. This is part of a $2.6 billion investment project in Bangalore, through which Apple plans to produce most of the iPhones sold in the U.S. in India.
The Trump administration hoped that Apple would produce iPhones in the U.S. rather than China, but Apple is exploring alternative solutions by expanding production in India.
Meanwhile, Apple announced plans to invest $500 billion in the U.S. and promised to create 20,000 jobs, but the production of iPhones in the U.S. remains uncertain. How the expansion of production in India will change Apple's supply chain strategy remains to be observed.
