Russian and Chinese scientists have created titanium that is "too strong"!
Planting teeth now have better materials.
August 5, TASS article.
Physicists from the Ufa University of Science and Technology in Russia and Nanjing University of Science and Technology in China created a pure titanium with ultra-high strength nanostructure during the experiment.
In the future, this titanium may help to manufacture ultra-strong and ductile materials, including dental implants.
Researchers speculate that the ultra-strength is related to the accumulation of impurities at grain boundaries.
Scientists from Nanjing University verified this through experiments.
Russian scientists processed the nanostructured high-purity titanium using a special method - after two twists under high pressure, they annealed it.
As a result, the titanium grains were reduced to 100 nanometers, which is 100-1000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair, and showed record-breaking strength. The yield strength limit of this titanium reached 1510 MPa, while ordinary hot-rolled titanium is only 680 MPa.
The hypothesis proposed by Russian scientists to explain this phenomenon has been verified by scientists from Nanjing University of Science and Technology through experiments.
