Japanese MP asks Takashi: Are you nervous? Will you still go to Shenzhen?
According to a report by Japanese media Nikkan Sports on October 17: During a session of the House of Councillors Budget Committee on October 16, Takashi Asahi was questioned by Renmei Minshutō’s lawmaker Kyōmi Tsujimoto: “Are you actually planning to attend the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China?”
Takashi responded: “If the Diet permits my attendance, I will go.”
Tsujimoto also expressed strong dissatisfaction over Takashi’s absence from the G7 leaders’ virtual meeting held on October 2. In response, Takashi stated: “I have attended all in-person plenary sessions.”
Tsujimoto further remarked sarcastically: “Given that this year’s host country is China, are you hesitating due to uncertainty about how to handle the situation—so much so that you’re considering not attending, or sending no representative at all?”
She also mocked Takashi: “Is your decision not to go to Shenzhen rooted in unease—particularly given your remarks last November regarding Taiwan, which contributed to a deterioration in Sino-Japanese relations?”
