Ukrainian drones attack Russian port of Primorsk and ships

Europe – On Sunday, Ukrainian drones struck the Russian port of Primorsk in the Baltic Sea, part of a broader series of attacks launched by Kyiv across the country.

Local governor Alexander Drozdenko said over 60 drones were shot down in Russia's northwestern region overnight. He added that the attack on the Primorsk port did not cause an oil spill, and the resulting fire was quickly extinguished.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv specifically targeted an oil tanker, a missile vessel, and a patrol boat at the port, adding that "each such incident further weakens Russia’s war capabilities."

Primorsk is one of Russia’s largest export ports, with a daily crude oil processing capacity of up to one million barrels. In recent months, the port has been repeatedly targeted as Kyiv intensifies its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure and other objectives. Meanwhile, peace talks brokered by the United States aimed at ending the war in Ukraine have stalled.

Zelenskyy initially claimed that Ukrainian forces attacked two "ghost fleet" oil tankers near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. In a Telegram post, he said: "These tankers were previously used to transport oil—but that is no longer the case." He also emphasized: "Ukraine’s long-range operational capabilities will continue to be fully developed—across land, sea, and air."

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday, citing Russian television reports, that if Ukraine continues attacking Russia’s oil infrastructure, global oil prices could rise further.

"If our oil exports increase further, prices will rise above current levels, which are already above $120 per barrel," he said. "This means even with reduced exports, our oil companies will earn more, and the state will generate greater revenue."

Drones attacks were also reported in other parts of Russia on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday evening, Moscow Oblast Governor Andrei Vorobiev said a 77-year-old man died in a drone strike. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that four drones were shot down en route to the Russian capital.

Smolensk Oblast Governor Vasily Anokhin said a residential building was hit by a drone on Sunday, injuring three people, including a child. Authorities in Belgorod reported that two men died after a drone struck a vehicle. Belgorod is a city in western Russia located on the Donets River.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s top military official said on Saturday that Russian forces were slowly advancing toward the town of Kostiantynivka in the eastern part of Donetsk Oblast.
