TikTok Faces "Sell or Ban" in the US, Trump: Buyer Found
AFP, Washington, 29th - China's ByteDance-owned short video platform TikTok faces a "sell or ban" order in the United States and has had its grace period extended three times. US President Trump said in an interview aired today that he has found a buyer for TikTok, who is a group of "very wealthy people".
Trump said during an interview with Fox News Channel's television program "Sunday Morning Futures" host Battleground that, "We have found a buyer for TikTok."
He also mentioned, "I think I may need approval from China. (The buyer) is a group of very wealthy people."
According to reports, Trump did not reveal more details about the buyer, but he said he would announce the buyer within about two weeks.
A federal law in the United States requires TikTok to be sold on the grounds of national security, otherwise it will face a ban in the United States. This law was originally scheduled to take effect the day before Trump's inauguration this January.
When Trump took office, he first announced an extension of the "sell or ban" deadline for TikTok in the United States by 75 days, then extended it to June 19th for the second time, and recently extended the grace period again.
