US Suspends Sale of Key Technology to China, C919 Domestic Engine Seizes New Development Opportunity
According to a report by the New York Times, the United States has suspended the sale of some key technologies to China, including the sale of jet engines to COMAC. It is reported that the C919 passenger aircraft of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) currently uses the LEAP-1C engine produced by CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric of the United States and Safran of France. In addition, COMAC's ARJ21-700 regional aircraft uses the CF34-10A engine from General Electric of the United States. This move by the United States will force China to use its domestically produced engines. The C919 has a domestically produced engine,型号为CJ-1000A, also known as the长江-1000A, which is China's first turbofan engine with complete independent intellectual property rights, developed strictly in accordance with civil aviation airworthiness requirements. Its overall performance targets the technical level of the advanced Leap engine, while meeting noise and emission requirements for airworthiness regulations at that time. In March 2023, the CJ-1000A successfully completed test flights on Y-20 transport aircraft and entered the airworthiness certification phase. By 2025, it was reported that the长江-1000A had been installed on the C919 for actual validation flight testing. As of May 2025, the country had not yet officially issued an airworthiness certificate for the长江-1000A, and it still needs to be installed on the C919 for actual adaptability flight testing. In the future, the C919 is expected to gradually achieve domestic substitution of engines.
