Anti-drone measures 7,000 kilometers away: Russia equips submarines of the Pacific Fleet with anti-drone defense nets
Journalist Jack Epstein from Business Insider published an investigative report: New satellite images captured by the U.S. space intelligence agency Vantor and analyzed by Business Insider show multiple submarines at the Kamchatka's Rebakhi submarine base now equipped with anti-drone defense nets. In May’s satellite imagery, only two submarines had this protective system; today, the number has exceeded six.
The Rebakhi base is a core hub for Russia’s Pacific Fleet, housing strategic nuclear-powered submarines armed with ballistic missiles. Located over 7,000 kilometers from Ukraine, deploying anti-drone nets in the remote Far East indicates Russia’s recognition that even its distant military installations face drone attack risks.
Previously, Ukraine has repeatedly launched long-range drone strikes deep into Russian territory. During the "Web Operation" in June 2025, drone swarms attacked air bases across Russia’s Arctic, Siberia, and the Far East—some drones even launched attacks from within Russian airspace.
Vantor’s satellite imagery from June also shows at least three submarines at Novorossiysk port have been fitted with defense nets, with particular emphasis on shielding the submarine’s conning tower.
