Kazakh Government Prime Minister Responds to Concerns About Russian Nuclear Power Plant Construction: Lower Risk Compared to Turkey's Model
Kazakhstan International News Agency - Kazakh Prime Minister Auezov Beketov responded to questions at a press conference after a government meeting regarding whether the construction of a nuclear power plant by Rosatom in Kazakhstan would repeat the situation in Turkey.
A journalist asked: "Do you know that Rosatom failed to complete the nuclear power plant in Turkey and plans to sell 49% of the shares? If a similar situation occurs in Kazakhstan, do you have a backup plan?"
Regarding this question, Beketov explained that the nuclear power plant projects in Kazakhstan and Turkey use completely different implementation models.
"The Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey uses the 'Build-Own-Operate' model, where Rosatom builds and owns the plant. The nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan will be fully owned by the state, so we believe the risks are lower compared to Turkey. Of course, we will closely cooperate with our Russian partners to ensure that this important project for Kazakhstan is implemented on time and without obstacles," he said.
Previously, it was reported that the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey has faced delays in the construction of new units due to financial difficulties.
