【Text/Observer.com, Pan Yuchen, Editor/Gao Xin】On July 1st, the first model of BYD's factory in Bahia, Brazil, the Yangcheng, was officially launched, becoming another milestone for BYD's establishment in the Brazilian market.
BYD's investment in its Brazilian factory reached 5.5 billion reais (approximately RMB 7.1 billion), and its initial new energy vehicle production line has the capacity to produce 150,000 vehicles per year, creating 20,000 direct and indirect jobs locally, and will become the largest electric vehicle manufacturing center in Latin America.
Since opening its first office in São Paulo in 2013, BYD has been deeply rooted in Brazil for more than a decade, continuously expanding its layout in fields such as photovoltaics, buses, batteries, and rail transit.
In 2014, BYD began operations in Brazil. In 2015, BYD opened its first electric bus factory in Campinas, Brazil, specializing in producing pure electric bus chassis and battery integration. In 2017, BYD built a second factory in Campinas, dedicated to producing photovoltaic components. In 2020, BYD opened a third factory in Manaus, Amazonas, focusing on power battery assembly production; that same year, BYD also established a maglev department in Brazil, supplying trains for Line 17 of the São Paulo Metro.

The factory uses solar and hydroelectric power, is equipped with a rainwater recycling system and wastewater treatment facilities, and follows global carbon reduction standards.

Among them, in May this year, BYD's European headquarters was officially established in Hungary. In addition, BYD has also formed its own roll-on/roll-off ship fleet, with six ships already officially in operation.
Currently, BYD is accelerating its global layout, and its new energy vehicles have spread to 112 countries and regions around the world. In the first half of this year, BYD's overseas sales reached 472,100 units, setting a historical high. At present, Chinese auto brands going abroad still face challenges such as brand awareness, consumer habits and demand differences, local regulations and standards, even trade protectionism and political public opinion storms. BYD's experience in Brazil is also a microcosm of the globalization process of many Chinese brands. Each challenge means huge investment and uncertainty. Its experience also profoundly illustrates that the success of Chinese enterprises going abroad is not a smooth road, but a long march requiring strategic perseverance, strong strength, and continuous resilience.
