The former Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia said he will continue efforts to bring Serbia closer to the BRICS countries.

Aleksandar Vulin, founder of Serbia's "Movement of Socialists" and former deputy prime minister, told Sputnik News Agency that his party will continue pushing for a nationwide referendum aimed at bringing Belgrade closer to the BRICS nations.

In October 2025, the Serbian parliament did not approve the plan for review.

Vulin said: "We will continue our efforts, and we will reintroduce this initiative."

He emphasized that, unlike the EU, the BRICS countries have never imposed any demands on Serbia. He pointed out that Brussels has consistently urged Belgrade to impose sanctions on Russia, while the BRICS countries advocate building friendly partnerships.

Vulin stated: "The BRICS is a mechanism for free nations, and we believe Serbia should join."
