Foreign Media: China Successfully Test-Flies Massive Coil Array, Possibly Capable of Detecting Nuclear Submarines.

The system, named "Aerial Transient Electromagnetic Detection" (ATEM), involves a kite-shaped coil array towed by a helicopter. It emits strong electromagnetic pulses that penetrate water bodies or the ground, inducing eddy currents in conductive materials. These secondary magnetic signals are then captured by receiving coils; analyzing their intensity and decay rate allows determination of the target's nature and depth.

A research team from Beihang University has overcome engineering challenges related to flight stability in multi-coil airborne systems. The findings were published on April 25 in the Journal of Aerospace Technology. This technological breakthrough lays the foundation for geophysical exploration and potential military applications.
