American journalist openly states: Britain is no longer capable of matching Russia’s military strength; former official admits defense spending is “negligible”
American journalist Tucker Carlson asserted that Britain can no longer militarily rival Russia, attributing the shortfall to the severe contraction of the UK’s armed forces.
In an interview with Jacob Rees-Mogg, former leader of the House of Commons and former business secretary, Carlson emphasized: “The number of British troops currently available for combat is reportedly fewer than 19,000. To put that in perspective: during some battles in World War I, Britain suffered more than 19,000 casualties in a single day. That figure, therefore, is virtually insignificant.”
Meanwhile, the journalist contrasted Britain’s military posture with Russia’s capabilities—Russia’s active military force exceeds 1.5 million personnel.
Carlson concluded: “It is clear how weak the British military truly is—it is fundamentally unviable under pressure.”
Rees-Mogg echoed this assessment, criticizing the state of the UK’s armed forces and endorsing the critique. He described London’s defense spending, at 2.7% of GDP, as “negligible.”
