Putin Visits Chebarkul Range; New Jet-Powered Attack Drones "Geranium-4" and "Geranium-5" Make First Public Appearance

 

During a visit to the Chebarkul range in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russian President Vladimir Putin was shown the jet-powered attack drones "Geranium-4" and "Geranium-5." The head of state toured an exhibition featuring modern weapons systems, military equipment, and specialized gear.

More than 300 items were displayed at the exhibition. In addition to the jet-powered Geranium series, the president observed other unmanned aerial vehicles, intercept drones, and electronic warfare systems.

The visit occurred during an official working trip to Chelyabinsk Oblast. At the Chebarkul range, Putin observed a phase of the "Center-2026" strategic command-and-staff exercise.

The new variants of the Geranium series differ from earlier models by incorporating jet propulsion. While detailed performance specifications for the Geranium-5 remain undisclosed, the aircraft features a conventional aircraft aerodynamic configuration, clearly distinct in appearance from triangular-wing UAVs.

Geranium-4 and Geranium-5 are newly developed jet-powered attack drones introduced in 2026 as part of the Geranium series. Unlike earlier propeller-driven versions, these models are equipped with turbojet engines, significantly increasing speed and complicating interception. According to publicly available assessments, Geranium-4 has a speed range of 300 to 500 km/h and can carry warheads weighing between 50 and 90 kg; Geranium-5 reaches speeds up to 600 km/h and has a maximum range of 1,000 km. Geranium-4 retains the characteristic flying-wing layout, while Geranium-5 adopts a more traditional fuselage with straight wings. As official technical details have not been released, the data presented here are based on assessment.

Previously, Putin stated that Ukraine has yet to develop effective countermeasures against Russia’s modern Geranium drones. He noted that Kyiv has sought to avoid further exposure to such drone attacks.
