【Global Times Report】According to reports by NBC and The New York Times, a source with knowledge of the matter said that U.S. President Trump dismissed the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Billy Long, on August 8 local time, and temporarily appointed the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Brian Bensons, to take over his position.

NBC reported that Billy Long was sworn in as the Commissioner of the IRS in June this year. He confirmed the news of his upcoming departure and said he will be appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to Iceland. At the same time, Bensons will become the sixth person to lead the IRS under Trump's administration.

Aside from the constant turnover in management, the IRS has also been one of the key targets for large-scale layoffs among federal government agencies since Trump took office. A spokesperson for the Department of the Treasury said in May that more than 20,000 out of approximately 100,000 employees at the IRS had already left.
