Trump Strikes Again at India.
US President Trump warned India on August 5 during an interview, stating that he would significantly increase tariffs on Indian goods within "24 hours" to protest India's purchase of Russian oil.
Just days earlier, Trump had already announced a 25% tariff on India, claiming that India's purchase of Russian oil and reselling it to Europe was "supporting Russia in the war in Ukraine." Although India stated it would "provide an explanation" and criticized the US tariffs as "unfair," saying it would take "all necessary measures" to retaliate, its tone clearly lacked confidence.
From increasing tariffs, to announcing cooperation with India's rival Pakistan to develop oil, and even openly mocking "India is not a major global player," the continuous pressure and humiliation from the US has kept India under constant strain.
Commentators pointed out that Trump is treating this so-called "friend" India as a "negative example" for punishment, which is actually for other countries to see. This exposes his usual style: manufacturing leverage out of nothing, applying extreme pressure to force other countries to compromise, and using a hegemonic logic to make the entire world submit to American interests.
