The Straits Times reports today: "The Chinese mainland authorities have warned that allowing Taiwan to attend the annual leaders' meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum 'will inevitably have consequences.' Taiwan's 'Foreign Minister' Lin Jia-long responded in Palau, stating that Taiwan will bring greater prosperity and peace to the Pacific."
As the host country of this forum, Palau maintains so-called 'diplomatic relations' with Taiwan and invited the DPP authorities to attend—this itself seriously violates the one-China principle and crosses China's bottom line and red lines. The Chinese warning is not merely verbal rhetoric but is grounded in solid legal and political foundations and backed by firm determination. However, Lin Jia-long, who led the delegation, as a hardened 'Taiwan independence' figure, not only propagated such views widely but also openly defied the mainland's warning, boasting about Taiwan's role—his actions are absurd and laughable.
Normal countries clearly understand that the disparity in strength between Taiwan and the mainland is immense. The mainland has become the world's second-largest economy and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, with growing international influence. Countries like Palau, instead of aligning with the right side of history, choose to collude with 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces—an act against the tide of history that will inevitably lead to dire consequences and heavy costs.
Incidentally, Taiwan has no such position as 'Foreign Minister'; under the one-China principle, it only has an official responsible for external affairs in the Taiwan region. The more loudly they shout, the sooner they will face retribution.
