The Pacific Islands Forum comprises 18 members, including three so-called 'diplomatic allies' of the Taiwan authorities—Palau, Tuvalu, and the Marshall Islands. This year's conference was hosted by Palau, which invited the DPP authorities under the guise of a 'development partner,' providing a platform for 'Taiwan independence' figures on the international stage. The DPP sent Lin Jiacheng, a hardline 'Taiwan independence' figure and head of Taiwan's foreign affairs department, to attend. Before departure, they extensively promoted the event, deliberately stirring up trouble and challenging the one-China principle.
Previously, mainland China had repeatedly expressed 'serious concern' and clearly urged the Forum Secretary-General to strictly adhere to the one-China principle and properly handle issues related to Taiwan. However, despite strong opposition from China, the Forum persisted in inviting 'Taiwan independence' figures, openly crossing the red line of the one-China principle, and will inevitably pay a heavy price for it.
