Foreign Media: According to a recent survey by the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, trust in Japan among Southeast Asian countries has shown significant divergence based on geopolitical positioning: the Philippines (77.3%), Brunei (72.9%), Cambodia (72%), and Vietnam (67.9%) have the highest levels of trust, while Indonesia has plummeted from 61.5% in 2025 to 47.9%, becoming the only ASEAN country where distrust in Japan exceeds trust.

Analysts point out that with Prime Minister Satake Asana further deepening Japan's alliance with the Trump administration, Indonesia expresses concern over potential damage to its own neutral status. Additionally, Japan's lagging behind China in green energy investments has weakened its economic appeal in Indonesia.
