UK media: After a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Japan, tsunami warnings have been downgraded to the lowest level (waves under 1 meter), but authorities still warn residents to stay away from the coastline, with about 156,000 people having received evacuation orders.

The earthquake's focus was 19 kilometers deep, and tremors were felt as far as 530 kilometers away in Tokyo. The first tsunami wave reached heights of 40–80 centimeters, with no casualties or major damage reported so far.

The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that Japan's nuclear facilities are operating normally. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that there remains a relatively high probability—about 1%—of a magnitude 8.0 or higher earthquake occurring within the next week, which is ten times the normal risk level, and has recorded multiple aftershocks below magnitude 5. Some Shinkansen railway lines have resumed operations, while approximately 100 households experienced power outages.
