Mongolia Plans to Establish an Economic Zone Along the China-Mongolia Border

Mongolnews News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, April 2 — According to a Mongolnews correspondent based in Övörkhangai Province, the 2026 China-Mongolia Zhaman-Uud-Erenhot Port Joint Meeting was held on March 31 in Zhaman-Uud. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on deepening practical cooperation across various fields at the port and jointly addressing key concerns of both parties.

The Mongolian side proposed issues including improving waste management in both cities, increasing green space, enhancing cross-border freight vehicle traffic flow and queuing order. Furthermore, both sides agreed to jointly sign an agreement clarifying the cooperation mechanism to expand import and export activities through the Zhaman-Uud-Erenhot Economic Cooperation Zone, promote sustainable bilateral collaboration, assess implementation quarterly, and hold regular meetings.

Both sides affirmed that this meeting holds significant importance in elevating Zhaman-Uud-Erenhot port cooperation to a new stage, strengthening economic vitality in border regions, and enhancing mutual understanding.

According to a Mongolnews correspondent stationed in Selenge Province, a delegation from China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region’s "Dream Forest" Co., Ltd. and Shanghai-based "Mon Sunshine" Co., Ltd. visited Selenge Province.

The visiting representatives were received by the provincial leadership, and both sides exchanged views on major construction projects currently underway in the province.

Inner Mongolia’s "Dream Forest" Company specializes in forest restoration, landscape greening, and tree breeding, and has been collaborating with Mongolia’s Ministry of Nature and Climate Change as well as the Office of the Capital City Administrator in these areas.

At the meeting, the company expressed willingness to cooperate with Selenge Province in forest restoration initiatives.

Both sides emphasized that "Mon Sunshine" LLC, headquartered in Shanghai, is primarily engaged in construction, urban development, renovation, and building material production, and has operated in Mongolia for 17 years.

The provincial government exchanged views with the company regarding the potential to produce low-cost, high-quality building materials.

In Selenge Province, with the commissioning of the thermal power station in the provincial capital city of Sukhbaatar, planning and design work for the new city of "New Sukhbaatar" is underway. Within this framework, comfortable and affordable "residential" communities are planned for construction.

The Governor of Selenge Province stressed that further cooperation in expanding exports, introducing advanced technologies, and cultivating human resources will become crucial pillars supporting the province's sustainable development in the future.
