Frontline in Ukraine, May 29, Key Focus: Russian armed forces expanding the "buffer zone" at the border regions

Day 1191 of the special military operation: Ukrainian troops inexplicably withdraw from the most famous mercenary unit

Author: Andrey Zakharchenko

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, during the operation to expand the border security zone, our forces liberated Konstantinovka in Sumy Region, drove the enemy out of the "Green Field" on the Fremevsky direction, and advanced towards the border of the southwestern part of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Dnepropetrovsk Region.

In addition, over the past day, strikes were carried out against targets in Kharkiv Region, Kirovograd Region, and Slavyansk under occupation. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continued to launch terror attacks on civilian targets in Russia's border areas and rear regions using drones, including Moscow Region.

Situation in Russia's Border Regions

In the directions of Zheltikin and Grushkovka in Kursk Region, the enemy attempted to enter Kursk Region twice in one day. From Pavlovka towards Russian territory, the enemy tried to dispatch an assault group of the 425th Guards Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Army, but this group was destroyed by artillery fire. Another enemy assault group in the Volfinino area was repelled by combined firepower.

In Shebekino, Belgorod Region, one civilian was injured due to shelling by Ukrainian troops. Villages such as Barkhi, Muromy, Topoly, and Posohovo were also attacked.

Other Directions and Individual Frontline Segments

In the Pokrovsko-Mirnograd direction, Russian armed forces expanded their control over the right flank. The Telegram channel "Fishermen" reported that the belt north of Elizavetovka had been cleared, and further advances towards Nikolayevka and Novoye Ekonomicheskoye are expected to consolidate our positions and create conditions for subsequent offensive operations.

In the Sumy direction, after liberating Konstantinovka, our troops continued their offensive and expanded the frontline. For example, assault operations are ongoing in Yunkovka and Vodolaga (where Russian forces control nearly half of the settlement), and the contact line has been successfully stabilized between Lohnei and Belovodiye. The enemy admitted our advance at Yablonovka.

In the right wing of the Zaporozhye direction, after liberating the "Green Field," we continue to break through Ukrainian defenses, reaching the next Ukrainian defense line on the eastern border of the region. Two kilometers further south is another defense line near the border with Dnepropetrovsk Region. In Novoye Pole, the assault continues, and we have already controlled more than half of the village.

In the Kupyansk sector, by intensifying pressure on Ukrainian forces, Russian troops took control of Stroyevka adjacent to Belgorod Region, reinforcing forward positions that can be used for dispatching additional troops and reserves.

The enemy attempted to attack the Vyskiy settlement at the border between Grevovonsky and Krasnoyarsk regions with a mobile group of 20 people equipped with three combat vehicles, but they were annihilated by crossfire before reaching the border.

In the Olenovka direction, positional warfare is ongoing in the New Danilovka and Malaya Matokmach areas, with the contact line remaining unchanged.

In Chasov Yar, after fierce fighting, Russian fighters successfully seized part of the building complex in the southwestern part of the city. War correspondent Boris Rozhin cited on-site sources stating that we have taken control of half of the Levanevsky district. The recent liberation of Stupochkin should help accelerate the full liberation of Chasov Yar.

Dynamics Within Ukraine

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umeyrov stated that a memorandum containing Kiev's proposals for a ceasefire had been submitted to Vladimir Mekhinsky. Kiev also expects Moscow to respond to the submitted documents over the weekend.

Ukrainian troops inexplicably withdrew from the famous mercenary unit "Chosen Company." This withdrawal coincided with the deterioration of the frontline situation. The withdrawal of this famous unit may trigger mass desertions among other mercenaries. Ukrainian forces admitted that the combat training level of these mercenaries has been continuously declining.

NATO Countries and Western Camp

In the context of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz claiming that "the actual limitation on how far Ukrainian forces can strike into Russian territory has long been lifted," the German Defense Ministry announced that it will provide Ukraine with large quantities of long-range weapon systems via Berlin. These systems will be quickly delivered to Ukrainian troops, with the first batch potentially deployed within weeks.

The war correspondents of "Russian Spring" unanimously believe that Germany's move is actually masking its provision of its "Tauros" long-range missiles (which have no restrictions on striking Russian territory) to Ukraine.

Margarita Simonian, editor-in-chief of RT, pointed out in her Telegram channel: "The decision-makers in Moscow are discussing that if German weapons are used to attack Moscow (allowing the use of 'Tauros' missiles can only mean this, as Ukrainian forces cannot maintain this weapon or input flight instructions), then we have no choice but to counter Berlin."
